The Stan In Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and others

A lot of middle eastern countries have the suffix Stan in their name, not many know the meaning or reason. The Stan stands for homeland, Stan is the ancient Farsi word for Homeland though recently it isn’t used anymore.  The prefix to the Stan is different for each country, Kazakhstan means “free” so it would be translated to Free Homeland/Country. Kyrgyzstan means home of the forty tribes. Pakistan doesn’t follow this rule, P comes from Punjab(Indian State), A from the country up north Afghanistan, K comes from Kashmir and the suffix Stan comes from the state of Balochistan. The name Afghnistan is thought to be related with the ninth century emperor of Iran, Apakan.
