One of the most popular games in the United States of America that receives more coverage in media is none other than Baseball. The Major League Baseball is very popular across the states in United States of America.
What is baseball?
Baseball is a field game, typically played in a base-ball ground by two teams, each having nine players each. The game uses a bat and the ball for playing. The ground is also different than grounds for games such as football, basket ball, or golf.
When and where the game was first played?
Historical records provide different accounts regarding the origins of this wonderful game. Some ancient French records show more than 1000 images of a typical game recorded in 16th century or early 17th century. A game of baseball played in 1755 was recorded by an English Lawyer, who claims that the game was played at Guildford, Surrey on an Easter Day. It is from England that this interesting game migrated to the United States and gained its popularity across the world.
Four different bases will be set up at four corners, either arranged as a square or as a diamond, where each base is separated by a distance of 90 feet from the previous base. At the start of the game, one team takes up batting while the other team takes up bowling. The goal of the batting team is to score runs. The player has to start batting against the pitcher in the home base and can move to the other bases after hitting the ball away from the fielding team. If three players from the batting team fail to move from the home base from where they started, then the batting team is forced to end their turn and take up fielding, while the fielding team will take up batting.
The basic tool used in a game of baseball, apart from the baseball ground, is the ball, the bat and the glove or mitt, which used by the fielding team. The bat is not a flat one, as is used in the cricket game or in hockey game. It is typically a hard round stick with a diameter of about 2.5 inches at the bottom part which is used for hitting, and at the upper end, where the batter holds it, it would taper it off to look like a knob or a simple handle.
