Dogs are humans loyal friends. That was the only thing I knew about dogs. My parents never allowed me to go near any dog as they feared it would bite me. Except for in my childhood i too was never too interested in knowing any more about dogs but this article made me realise what a huge encyclopedia can be written on the subject of dog. So does it have to be written by someone yet or is it already available?

The only thing about a dog would be to not have any in the neighborhood barking at us or our cars and if any are to be kept then they should be kept leashed and out of our way. I am tired of stepping on doggy poo on my lawn and of dogs barking at my car when I am stepping out of it at my house.

Specifically, a dog’s life is first recorded in the sixteenth century and seems to have remained in the language with the sense of “a life of misery, or of miserable subserviency” ever since. I’d hate to lose it myself.

It certainly seems that the phrase has become more ambiguous than it once was, though I’ve not come across many examples myself of its use as a description of a pampered existence. Most of our expressions that include dog are old enough to be based in times when dogs were not cosseted, but were kept as watchdogs or hunting animals, not as pets. They often weren’t allowed in the house, but were kept in kennels, fed scraps, worked hard, and often died young. So going to the dogs, dog tired, to die like a dog, dog’s dinner, dogsbody, dog eat dog, and a dog’s life all refer to a state of affairs best avoided.
