John Harvey Kellogg invented the corned flake and he was also nuts! He was obsessed with the human bowel and stood against any act of sex. The company was grounded on practises in the Seventh Day Adventist and the Christian denomination. Cereal flaking was discovered by accident while cooking some wheat for a type of granola. The wheat had gone stale so Harvey and his brother forced the wheat through rollers. A thin flake emerged and they kept experimenting and developing the flaking process.

Corn flakes were the first cereal introduced on the market in 1906 and then Rice Kris pies in 1928 and Frosted Flakes in 1952. The CEO is James M. Jeness. The revenue for Kellogg’s is $10.9 billion in 2006. Kellogg’s is the world’s leading producer of breakfast cereal. It is an American multinational producer of breakfast and snack foods. The headquarters are located in Battle Creek, Michigan. Corn Pops took 14 years to develop! It first came out in 1950 and is one of the top 15 best selling cereals. Kellogg’s decided to drop swimmer Michael Phelps from his endorsement deal because he was caught smoking dope!

Kellogg’s was the first company to use television advertising as it’s dominate feature for advertising. Corn flakes were created and sold in 1895 as a product called “granose.” Corn flakes were the only cereal to be eaten aboard the Apollo 11, the first lunar landing. Special K in the UK has 31% more sugar than Special K in the U.S. In 2009, Kellogg’s urged consumers not to eat it Austin and Keebler brand peanut butter crackers because of ongoing investigations regarding salmonella. The company has approximately 26,000 employees. There was also a recall on Special K bars and cookies in 2009.

Tony the Tiger won a contest in 1953 to become the sole spokesperson for Kellogg’s Sugar Frosted Flakes. Other contestants were Katy the Kangaroo, Elmo the Elephant and Newt the Gnu. There is a company called “Under the Hood,” that is taking Kellogg’s products and characters and melds them into hip hop clothing. You can get hoodies, tees, jackets and jeans. The company has decided to market their line in English and Spanish. The company estimates that Hispanics spend around $720 million a year on ready to eat cereals. Kellogg’s is big on recycling and their cereal boxes are made from recycled paper! Froot Loops come in a 100% recycled box!
