Facts about Hunting

October 20th, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Some consider this barbaric, some consider it a tradition. I consider this a sport even though it is sad to see. Here some hunting facts.

-200 millions of animals are hunted each year.

-7% of the US hunts.

-In 60% of the wildlife areas in the US, you can hunt.

-Hunting is the oldest human sport*. Since the time of the ice ages we’ve been hunting, specially then because there was no plant food.

-As great as an animal might have defense against natural predators it doesn’t have a chance against the human firepower.

-Hunting disrupts hibernation, migration of animals.

-For animals like wolf who have a love mate for life, killing their mate destroy it’s life.

-Hunting agencies often make up excuses they only kill overpopulated animals like the white tailed deer but those animals only account for 3% of their kills.

-The government uses lots of the tax money to make roads in wildlife areas to make easy access for hunters. ( because hunters basically pay them back with the license to hunt).

-Hunters often say they do “fair chase”, what’s so fair about using a powerful firearm against a harmless animal.

This website gives you alot of facts and details but it could have more details and facts that support both positive and negatives about hunting in a man or woman’s everyday life style.

    @Drake Vaughn
Beef comes from cows idiot. Hunting CAUSES overpopulation by leaving one buck to about six does, and most hunters kill the strong animals just to brag about it, they don’t eat the meat!

Hunting is good for the economy because it creates hundreds of thousands of jobs for people that make hunting supplies plus it helps with the problem of overpopulation and it is food

how do you see hunting as a sport? “hunting is not a sport. in a sport, boht sides know they are playing.” if that doesnt make you think twice about it, then you should really check out the website “www.idausa.org/facts/hunting”. There you can get the full thought of hunting. And saying that hunting helps with the overpopulation is about the biggest lie i have ever heard. the website also proves that wronge. check it out.

first of all hunting is indeed a sport because you can go against hunters and try to get the most kills of animals than them that is why hunting is a sport.
Second of all hunters do eat the meat of animals and john is right about hunters they do eat the meat of animals.

Hunting alone is responsible for INCREASED populations of ALL species which are legally hunted. Farming is responsible for DECREASED populations of ALL legally hunted species. Farming destroys habitat FOREVER. Read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn if you want to know what’s really happening to the planet and it’s community of life.

Also, claiming that hunting causes overpopulation by killing bucks while leaving does is simply misguided. Deer are harem breeders, this means that one buck is responsible for mating with several does. There is NOT a natural 1:1 sex ratio in any deer population, most undisturbed populations (of which only a few still exist) exhibit a natural sex ratio of 1:4-5.

hunting is good, if your helping the over population. Only 3 % of animals hunted are overpopulated, sorry to say hunters. Tropy hunting is terrrible, what did these animals do to you? nothing, i think they have more of a right to live on earth then we do.

I can’t believe you people believe what idausa is saying. Most of his “facts” he pulls out of his ass (ergo little citations)and you should research these things for yourself using government sites and then form your opinion. Your ideas shouldn’t reflect Joe Blow from PETA without your own research.

How can you even sleep at night. hunting animals for fun is horrible. they never did anything to you to begin with. i use to like hunting and felt like is was not a big deal but after researching all about hunting for honestly 3 weeks now i don’t even know if i can forgive myself for even thinking it was okay. And not all hunters eat what they kill. I am okay with hunting to survive because it a natural thing but hunting just to kill something is horrible and sick. Imagine if you were that deer that was being shot with crossbow. Did you even know that about 50% of animals shot with crossbows end up still living but are wounded which can give them pain for the rest of their lives. And think about the deer that get shot with a crossbow but run away but end up bleeding to death, you can’t eat them now can you. Hunting is wrong no matter which way you look at it and anyone who thinks otherwise is really messed up in the head. And honestly does it make you feel good to hurt something that protect itself. That’s like beating up a mentally handy-cap person.

y’all need to do some research on deer biology and proper game mangament techniques. wildlife needs to be managed nowadays due to our own overpopulation. No, wildlife like the deer are not always killed ethically or for the right reasons, but if proper game management is pushed for, then this will happen less. Do some research and go spend some time in the woods and you will see what I mean. Unless you have actually hunted before, then how can you say that hunting is bad. Just like anything, don’t judge a book by its cover. Experience hunting before you make an opinion.

If you read the Bible after the flood God gave man dominion over all animals for food and work. Hunting is a good conservation effort and the meat from the animals taste great.
