5 Great Short Books To Read

September 16th, 2010

Here are some of the short novels/books I have read and really enjoyed. Even if you are someone who doesn’t like reading you will enjoy some of these wonderful books.

5- A Descent Into The Maelstrom By Edgar Allan Poe

A very strange yet interesting old man tells the story of the survival of his shipwreck and also how he managed to survive a whirlpool. Mr Poe’s works are often associated with macabre although some parts in the book confirm that, most of the book is about mystery and surprises.

4- Candide By Voltaire

If you like comedy and wits this book is made for you. It will engross you in a world with bizarre politics and different societies. Sometimes the satire is too much but Voltaire knows when it’s enough.

3- Any of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Short Stories

As a physician himself Sir Arthur told some of the situation with such depth not seen often in books. All of his stories have wits, intellectuality and mystery. For anyone who loves those three genres, Sir Arthur’s Sherlock Holmes will be perfect for you.

2-The Old Man And The Sea By Ernest Hemingway

Another story about an old man, Ernest Hemingway’s last work, I believe. An old man who fishes hasn’t got a fish for over 80 days. The book reveals how he catches a huge marlin and his struggle to get him back on land. A test of strength between man and nature. Very very short read.

1- The Ebb-Tide By Robert Louis Stevenson

Really liked this, I don’t want to say much about what happens. But the story revolves about a few characters living in Tahiti, all come from different social backgrounds. It’s the classical story where all there problems somehow intervene .

There are so many great books, it is hard to make a definitive list. These are a few I enjoyed.

Top Vacation Destinations

July 29th, 2010

Every summer thousands of people go out in search of a great vacation. Sometimes they end up with something undesirable and other times they get what they paid for. Ask a tourist whats he looking for in a vacation destination, enjoyment and adventure are the most common answers. Here is most fantastic touristic destination I’ve been too.

Thailand

Facts

Small country in South East Asia, slightly larger than Spain, bordering Bruma and Laos from the north. This country had about 13.4 million international visitors in 2007, numbers have been thought to have grown rapidly and should be at  20 million by summer of 2011. Which will be approximately the same number of visitors a year as Mexico and Canada, second only to China in the Asia.

Things To Do

  • Kite Fights, fun and easy, an activity in many Asian cultures. In Thailand this is done as a competition between Women and Men. You can watch or either participate if you can flight a kite.
  • Watching Muay Thai fights. there are 100s of Muay Thai tournaments in Thailand each month, you will probably come across a few. Watching athletes trade thunderous blows with no protection is something amazing.
  • With more than half of the population being Buddhists, there many temples around. Meditation is one of the most relaxing activities, sitting bear feet in a temple with thousands around you meditating is a great sight.

There many things to do in this wonderful country, wine testing tours in Bangkok, meeting the lady boys, diving with sharks(not great white sharks) and many other adventures. Can’t wait to return in a few weeks…

What do the coloured flags mean in racing?

May 25th, 2010

The colored flags in racing have a certain meaning. We always see in races, someone waving a flag that has multiple colors. There are about 7 flags, they each have a meaning. So while driving, the racer needs to remember what all these flags mean and when he sees one he needs to react to it. The first three flags have a pretty straightforward meaning that anyone with knowledge of driving rules would know. Green flag means the start of the race, Red Flag means stop for an emergency, Yellow Flag means don’t pass. Now the tougher flags, the white flag means the leaders are starting their final lap, the black flag means there was a rules infraction, a blue flag with a sideways stripe demands the racers to slow down and the last flag is the checkered one which means the race is done.

Did you know NASCAR is the only sport organization founded and owned by a family. Also some of the NASCAR tracks can hold up to 190,000 people in the US, bigger than any none motor sports arena.
