Several mental disorders affect thousands of people worldwide. While some of these illnesses are more common and frequent among people, some disorders are rare and not commonly found. Here is a list of some uncommon, rare mental disorders that affect people.
• Reduplicative paramnesia
This is a rare mental disorder in which a person believes that the place he is present in is not where it is supposed to exist, rather it has been duplicated in some other location. He is thus of the idea that the same place exists in two different locations simultaneously. For example a person in his bedroom, living in London, is aware of the fact that he is still in his room in his house but his house is now located in Tokyo. He believes his house still exists in London but the same house is also in Tokyo where he is now. This condition is commonly associated with brain injuries sustained during an accident.
• Capgras delusion
This is a disorder in which a person believes that his acquaintance or his family or friend has been replaced by a similar looking person who is an impostor. This disorder is usually found among people suffering from schizophrenia though in some cases it has been reported to be found in people having suffered an injury to the brain. This syndrome of misplaced identity can have a severe detrimental effect since the person will start displaying a lack of trust in his family and friends.
• Fregoli delusion
The Fregoli delusion or the Fregoli syndrome is a rare disorder. A person suffering from this delusion believes that different people are actually the same person, moving about in different disguises. This disorder can give way to paranoia where a person starts believing that someone is trying to hurt them and keeps taking the form of different people in their family or the form of people the patient meets.
• Stendhal syndrome
This disorder is also known as Hyperkulteremia or the Florence syndrome. In this disorder, a person begins to experience confusion, nausea, and an increased heartbeat when exposed to any form of art. This usually takes place if the artwork is impressive or a lot of it is present in one single place. In other words, the hallucinations arise because the person is unable to cope up with the enormous attractiveness of the world. This disorder takes its name Florence syndrome from the huge number of people that suffer from this condition when they visit Florence.
• Cotard delusion
The Cotard delusion or more commonly known as negation delusion is a disorder in which a person believes that he is dead or does not exist for real or has lost his body parts and organs. This disorder could manifest itself in people who wake up after an accident believing they are dead, and are now roaming in the streets of heaven or hell. This disorder has also been observed in cases of people suffering from depression and schizophrenia

For most of us, a toilet is simply a toilet. We use it on a daily basis when we feel the need and do so with little expectation for comforts or special treatments. In Japan it seems that there is a kind of toilet obsession taking over and no longer are the Japanese content with a toilet that flushes properly every time. These days there have been many modifications made to the humble porcelain throne by the Japanese and toilets can now not only flush away what they were designed to dispose of but also do other interesting tasks such as wash and dry your private regions , raise and lower its own seat, play music and even check the users blood pressure.
Another wonderful addition to the regular everyday toilet we are used to is that some of these modified futuristic toilets even come with a seat heating function which would be absolute bliss in the cooler months. When you take into consideration the fact that the Japanese once used a toilet that required them to squat down into a somewhat awkward position, it comes as no surprise that they wanted something bigger and better which eventuated into more and more upgrades being made. In a world where most countries find artworks or structural design as the most desirable aspects of a home Japan stands out as being the country where the toilet is very desired and indicative of social status. The most basic high-function toilet will still come with a heated seat and a control panel. The ability to use a toilet which not only opens and closes its own lid but also flushes itself, is extremely effective in helping reduce the amount of germ transfer which is common in toilets.
Many of these high tech public Japanese bathrooms also have sinks, taps and soap dispensers where the tap and soap dispenser work via a sensor which eliminates the need for users to physically touch them. It is rather important that overseas tourists who plan on travelling to Japan for a holiday or business trip for the first time keep in mind that almost everywhere they go there will be some sort of advanced toilet that they will need to use at some point during their stay. For the unknowing user a sudden squirt of water up the backside and a blow-dry could give quite an unexpected fright especially if you have stood up too soon and find yourself drenched from the jet of toilet water that was meant to clean you off. One very intriguing question though is why has this craze not spread throughout the world?
The Japanese are happily sitting on nicely warmed toilets which play relaxing music as you go about your business and yet most of us in other countries worldwide still find ourselves sitting on a cold toilet seat during the winter with only the sound of running toilet water to set the atmosphere. Just why this is the case I personally am not sure but in a world where multitasking and time management is becoming increasingly important there is a good chance that one of these remote control toilets could be hitting the shores near you sooner than you think.

Today’s woman has her choice of many costly of prepared concoctions to help her look younger and more attractive, but for thousands of years the person who wanted to change her appearance was on her own. Archeologists say Egyptians — both men and women — were known to paint and dye their bodies and hair as long as 12,000 years ago and the Old Testament refers to the use of eye shadow. One of the less appetizing lipsticks — the one used by Cleopatra — was the one made from crushed insects. It might make her lips darker, but would it make them more kissable? Thank goodness today’s lipstick is made from such things cochineal, according to a report by the University of California at Los Angeles. What is cochineal, you ask? It’s a dye made from bugs, according to that same report.
Arsenic has long been known to smooth the skin and hair and make the eyes brighter, but one of the drawbacks — aside from the fact that it can kill — is that it causes freckles. But those who find freckles annoying instead of cute can always use urine, cow manure or the blood of a bull to remove them, according to several ancient myths. Me? I’d rather have the freckles.
For centuries, a woman’s tan skin indicated she was a laborer and not a wealthy lady of leisure, therefore the paler the woman’s skin, the more fashionable she was. Women in the sixth century were known to make themselves bleed to achieve this look. The practice had been discontinued, but the desire to be pale was still evident 1200 years later when a mixture of lead oxide, hydroxide and carbonate was used to whiten the face. Long use of this mixture could paralyze or kill the wearer. American women of a few decades ago were careful to wear sun-blocking hats to hide their work in the sun. These days, only those with time on their hands can afford to lie in the sun, while the workers are most often kept indoors all day. Tans are in. But they’re not always safe. The same rays that give the skin a darker hue also cause wrinkles and cancer, according to the Society for Women’s Health Research.
Dying to have pretty eyes? For many centuries, kohl has been used to as eye shadow to make the eyes seem larger. Unfortunately one of the main ingredients of kohl is lead and it can poison the person who wears it, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It is illegal to possess kohl in the United States. Modern women who don’t enjoy the morning ritual of “putting their face on” every morning can join those who have had makeup permanently tattooed onto their faces. This may be a time-saver, but the FDA is studying the problems that permanent makeup and other tattoos have caused. The most common problem seems to be the removal of a tattoo that has gone out of fashion (or the tattooed has changed his or her “special friend”).
