Caspian Sea is not a sea get your facts right

August 27th, 2008

You would be amazed to know that contrary to popular belief Caspian Sea is not a SEA. A short extrait from Wikipedia on Caspian Sea.

The Caspian Sea is the largest enclosed body of water on Earth by area, variously classed as the world’s largest lake or a full-fledged sea. It has a surface area of 371,000 square kilometers (143,244 sq mi) and a volume of 78,200 cubic kilometers (18,761 cu mi). It is an endorheic body of water (has no outflows), and lies between the southern areas of the Russian Federation and northern Iran. It has a maximum depth of about 1025 meters (3,363 ft).

Now to the belief, first of all one has to know what is Sea and what goes into the category of a Sea. A sea is a body of water connected to the ocean, like Mediterranean Sea or Caribbean Sea or the Arabian Sea. Whereas the ever so popular Caspian Sea is a body of water that is surrounded by land.

It is amazing that almost everyone gets this wrong, probably because of popular belief. Next time you pissed at your teacher throw this one at him/her see if they can get it.

Sometimes I feel like that my blog in a way is a weapon for those kids that want to challenge their teachers knowledge, which was always something of a hobby to me, to know how much my teachers knew about some stuff.
