Five Ways to Cope With a Divorce

1- Seek help. There are many people out there who are able and willing to help you at this very difficult time, especially if you are the offended party in the divorce. A counsellor might be a good place to start, someone who is trained in these matters. Ask around and find the one that is perfect for you. Another person could be your pastor or rabbi, as they deal with people all the time who are having problems in their life. Maybe you don’t have such a person, but one of your friends does, and it doesn’t hurt to discuss this issue with them. Your friends will want to help anyway and they might have another solution that is just right for you. There are also support groups out there, who will discuss your immediate troubles and have solutions for each issue involved in the process of a divorce.

2- Friends. You might have a friend who has gone through this very same situation in their life, who you will be able to discuss all the different aspects of your divorce with. Each persons story is different though, but there might be some legal ramifications which they will know all about and just telling someone else will give you ideas as to what to do too. They could direct you to a lawyer, who will do the very best job for you and give you good advice on how to proceed.

3- Make a plan for your life. Things are going to change drastically for you, and you need to find some other things to occupy your time. What is it that you’ve always wanted to do, but didn’t either have the time or money to do it, but now you might be able to. Maybe your hearts desire was to take on a project that was always put on the back burner, a special hobby, or redecorating the house. You might find yourself doing something that you never ever thought you could do, but you find out that you are quite capable, and other people will notice and want you to do that very thing for them. You just might find yourself with a new job, one which fulfills you substantially on an emotional level.

4- Keep busy. Do something of interest to you, a favour for a friend, visiting the elderly, as time on your hands can be a very dangerous place to be. You might find yourself having to make a living, as not all divorces leave a person with means to keep going financially, without a job. Look for that place of employment which you find interesting, and which will also keep food on the table. You might be very good at something which you did every day during your marriage and now there are people who are willing to pay you for doing that job for them.

5- Enjoy your freedom. You could be a person who had so many responsibilities and now you find you don’t have near as many. You have time and the finances to do other things, the things you always wanted to do, go on a trip for instance, have people in for a party, join a gym, whatever your heart always wanted to do. Playing Poker Online-from a Beginners Perspective

The picture I got whenever anyone mentioned playing poker, were those dirty, smoky back rooms, where men went to blow all their savings and their children would be without food on the table for a long time. Things are different now, with the computers and the game being played online. You can still lose your shirt, if you are not careful. Yes, it can become an addiction, just as anything can, but as I was shown how to play online, this became a very enjoyable pastime.

At first, I played the free games, which are on all the poker sites, just to get used to the whole concept of playing at all. I also needed to get used to the cards, and also what game to play. I started with Texas Hold-em, as that was the one that I was shown. I was pleasantly surprised when I actually won a game. Don’t ask me how I ever did it, but of course that spurred me on to play some more, and yes I got hooked.

I (who has never even bought a lottery ticket) put some money into the poker site. I lost a bit and also won some. I made a plan in my mind, that I wouldn’t spend more than a dollar on each game, but then when I started to win those, I progressed to $5 double or nothing games. Of course, and you already know what I’m going to say, I also lost some of them. Because I’m a person who is careful with their money, I dropped back to playing the dollar games again.

After a period of time playing that game online, I wanted to try something else, so I went to where they explain the different kinds of poker games, and decided to try Omaha. As far as I could see, it was a little more difficult, but also more challenging. I kept playing each game worth 10 cents. Yes, that’s what I said, as I don’t want to lose all my money while I’m just learning it. It is more interesting though, but you can not see when a straight or a flush is coming. Well, you can, but it moves so fast, that you don’t want to hold everyone up by being slow.

I still play the 10 cent games, as I’m still a beginner and I can see how a person could get so addicted to playing, that it would be a compulsion which would be very hard to stop on your own. I still play Texas Hold-em too, as I like the variety. Who knows, maybe I’ll try playing one of the other games too, but for now I think these two are enough. Being raised in a home where a deck of cards were not even allowed, I do believe that I have progressed quite a bit. I only play for fun, in between doing my jobs, but as soon as I get a chance, I’m on that computer, and what I’ll be doing would more than likely be playing poker. One thing for sure is I sure would rather be playing poker than doing this!

Finding the Right Restaurants – When Its Chow Time

It is a big job, but someone has to do it, and it might as well be me. I really enjoy it when a friend says to me, “have you tried that certain restaurant?” I respond that I have not had the pleasure, then they go on to tell me what they had to eat when they were there, and how delicious it was. I am not a food critic or anything like that, but I do like to try new things, and food is one of them.

Within a very short time, you will find me at that restaurant, trying the very thing that my friend recommended, and most of the time, I have to agree with them. Everyone’s taste buds are different, so not all establishments would be on my favorite list, but when I find one that does a fantastic job, I have to tell everyone.

Not only do I enjoy being fed good fare, but I also like it when the waitress/waiter accommodates your every wish with a lovely smile. They always get a good tip, and I know that is one if the reasons they are so pleasant, but I have had some who do not get a tip, but I will explain why they don’t. It doesn’t help them if you will not explain this to them. Hopefully they will improve when waiting on the next person.

When I go on vacation, especially the ones that I drive, I will go in the little shops and ask the clerk where their favorite place is to eat, and not too expensive. They will tell you that they just had lunch there or were just going. You are shown the very best places, one where all the locals dine. I have yet to be disappointed by using this method when traveling. People are always so happy to help you, and you will be amazed by the out-of-the-way places you will find doing it this way.

Most of these places will not be advertised in the paper, or do they have to send fliers out to the different homes, as everyone in that neighborhood will already know about them. Their advertising is done by word-of-mouth, and that is the best and also the cheapest way, by far. As long as their food is good, they will always have a huge clientele waiting to get in the door, and these places will not take reservations. You just have to turn up, and most likely have to wait in line.

My grandmother used to tell me, that if she was in a restaurant, she would always check out the washroom and if it was not clean, she would not stay there. I have done the same thing, and have left a few places too. I think they could take the time to clean up everywhere, and if the washroom is not too well kept, then what does their kitchen look like!

UFOS FACT, OR FICTION?

UFOs have always held a fascination for millions of people all over the world, and though many believe there is no such thing, thousands of people have reported seeing what they are positive are flying saucers, and many even claim that the government has irrefutable proof of their existence and is involved in a massive cover-up in order to avoid mass hysteria. There have been hundreds if not thousands of documented cases surrounding these sightings and many of the witnesses are very reputable and in some cases even scientists and members of law enforcement agencies.

One of the most famous of these cases was the Roswell UFO Incident, where allegedly on July 8th 1947 near Roswell, New Mexico, USA, an object that was thought to be a UFO crashed, and not only was debris discovered that was supposedly of extra-terrestrial origin, but they also found an actual alien corpse still intact. Now this incident has been a subject of intense controversy and many conspiracy theories have arisen to what actually crashed that day. The US military stated that was recovered was actually debris from a high altitude surveillance balloon that was still in its experimental stage, and was part of a highly classified program called “Mogul”. Many researchers of UFOs claim the government did indeed find an alien spacecraft, and a body, but decided cover it up to keep the findings a secret so that they could further examine the remains without having to reveal what they learned.

The whole controversy started when on July 9th 1947, one day after the initial crash, when the Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) issued a release to the press stating that soldiers from the 509th Bomb Group when arriving at the crash site, discovered what appeared to be some type of “flying disc” which quickly sparked intense media attention from all over the world. Ironically enough the military later that same day recanted the story, and the Commanding General of the Eighth Air Force himself, said that it was a big misunderstanding, and adamantly maintained it was just a weather and surveillance balloon, and at a subsequent press conference actual debris from the supposedly crashed balloon was shown to the media and soon the case was quickly forgotten.

The whole story was completely ignored until 1978, when a well known and reputable UFO researcher named Stanton T. Friedman interviewed a Major Jesse Marcel, who was apparently part of the original recovery team that did the clean up at the crash site. The Major claimed that the military were definitely involved in a cover up and that the debris was indeed of extra-terrestrial origin, and certainly not any kind of balloon. This interview soon received a lot of attention by people in the UFO circles, and some documentaries were made, but when The National Enquirer ran the story it received huge worldwide attention.

Over the years other witness started appearing, adding new details, and alluding to a much bigger cover up that involved over 11 other crash sites, and an actual team of scientists whose sole job was to recover spacecrafts and aliens and even perform autopsies when required. There is still no concrete proof that has ever been released, but it makes you wonder whether we are alone out there! 10 Ways to Get Through Christmas With Your Sanity

1- Keep a running list of all the most important things needing to be done. Take time to make a list, this will help you immensely as the season progresses.  You will know exactly just what needs to be done, and how desperately it needs doing. This crucial step will ease your mind and keep you focused. Remember to keep your list where you do most of your work, maybe on your fridge in the kitchen, where you look each day, or taped to your mirror in the bathroom, but don’t let it floor you, seeing the amount of work ahead.

2- Do one item at a time. You will feel totally overwhelmed if you try to do too many things in one day. Space out the jobs, even list them for certain days, but keep some flexibility too, as there are always other things in your life which come up, which need your attention and there’s always tomorrow.

3- Decorate minimally. Many people think that they must decorate their home with too many things. You do not want to make your home look too cluttered, and you do not have to spend an enormous amount of money, to have your home looking presentable for the holidays.

4- K.I.S.S. This is a good saying, not only for the Christmas season, but to live by through the whole year. “Keep it simple stupid”. You can leave the last word off if you so desire, it still gets the whole concept across and keeps your life in proper prospective.

5- Do not max out your card. So many feel that they must buy the most expensive gift that is available, but usually the things that you have put the most thought into, by knowing the persons likes and dislikes, are the most important aspects of gift-giving. Your children will not necessarily like the most expensive better than the cheapest. They will love you just as much, maybe more, so don’t go on a guilt trip and buy, buy, buy. You do not want to be paying off your card all year long.

6- Have only a few friends. If you plan to have a party over the holidays, don’t make it the biggest and best around. Your friends will enjoy just being with you and will have a good time no matter what, so make sure you have people who know each other and get along well together, then everyone will be wanting to come back again and again.

7- You strapped for time, get help. There are so many services available today, and many will do a small party or a get-together for a decent price, if you keep the list of food simple, but delicious. Ask around and find the likely candidate who does the type of party you want to have.

8- Caterer for Christmas dinner. If you can afford it, and you want to have a very special dinner, without all the work, have a caterer to do the job. Maybe you know someone who will prepare the meal and bring it over on that day.

9- Your list is finished.

10- Enjoy yourself. Now that everything is done and your guests are all seated for their Christmas dinner, relax and enjoy your friends and loved ones. You deserve to have a good time too.

Nursing Home-the Big Decision

Recently we (my brother and I) had to make the very difficult decision to put our mother into a nursing home. She had been living with me before that, but had to first go into the hospital, as she had blood clots in her lungs, so was having difficulty breathing properly. While she was there, I put in the application for a transfer to a nursing home, having first looked into the ones which were available in our area.

We went and toured some facilities, then upon seeing how they were run, and talking to some of the staff, we made our decision. Three places were picked, with the one that we wanted , which was closest to our house, on the first of the list. The people in charge of admissions said that we might not have a choice, when it came to her placement, and they were right.

Within a matter of a couple of weeks, we were called and there was a location which had a bed ready for our mother. The only problem was that it was located half an hour away from our home. We were informed that if we didn’t take that one, we would be cancelled from the list and would have to re-apply. We went and toured that one (as it was not on our list). It wasn’t the fanciest place , but when we talked to the people working there, we could tell that it was more than just a job to them.

After much deliberation on our parts, we decided to go ahead and accept the place. Our mother was not the happiest person on earth with this, as she was willing to just wait for her first choice, but she needed more care than we could give her. We took her, got her settled, stayed and had lunch with her, to see how that would go. It was not the best situation, as the other people around her were not in the best of shape, so upon talking with the person in charge, they very willingly had her moved to a table where she could talk with others. That impressed us.

As time went on, and spending two days a week visiting her, it was even more evident that this facility was one of the better ones. It proves to me that you can’t tell a book by its cover. Whatever we suggested as a change to better moms stay, they complied and we were very impressed. We know there have been some horror stories when it comes to nursing homes, but our experience with this place, has totally erased any doubt. In any event after you read thisI think you will agree that perhaps being in a nursing home is not so bad after all!

It’s Time To Smell The Roses – Gardening-the Benefits

Ever since I was a little child, I loved to mess around in the dirt, so consequently I started pulling the weeds (sometimes more than weeds) in my parents flower garden. I didn’t always know what were flowers from the weeds, but along with my mom and dads tutelage I came in time to identify the flowers, and actually got to know some of their names.

When I got married and had my own place, I started to work in the flower beds, making a design of my choosing, and getting to know the different kinds of flowers and shrubs. I wanted to know which ones would enhance the look of the property, and started to experiment. Sometimes one kind would be planted in a certain area, but would not do well there, so I would move to it another side of the house and found that it did better in  that location.

By trial and error the flower beds were beginning to look pretty attractive, and the main thing is, they always gave me great pleasure. Other people would walk by and comment on how beautiful my gardens were and how they loved seeing them. I would say that I was glad that they were enjoying them too. They would also comment that it looked like it was a lot of work, and I would respond by saying that when you love doing something, it is not work at all.

When time passed and circumstances changed, it became necessary for me to find work. The very thing I enjoy the most in life, became a career for me. Now I do gardens for other people, getting  paid handsomely for doing it, and I get to design gardens, to blend with the coloring of their houses too. That is my favorite part, as I guess I have a creative side of me that needs to be released, and this the perfect way to accomplish that in my life.

To walk through the nurseries and see what is new or an altogether different type of a flower or shrub that I already love to plant, which I have had good luck with is so much fun for me. Some people love to go to a mall and buy themselves some new clothes, or some new gadget for their house, but I can not wait for those catalogue from the different suppliers to come in the mail, so I can order a completely new specimen which I know not one other person on my block has yet.

When plants bring such joy to so many people, the greatest gift to yourself, is giving some of your plants to other people who love to garden too. Trading plants can be a fun thing to do. I remember once having a garage sale, and a lady noticed one of my plants that was blooming at that time, and I overheard her say to her husband that she would like to have one of them. I went over to her and said that I happen to have an extra one and she could have it. Well that lady was ecstatic, and beyond words.

In the various places that I do gardens, the people say that they do not want a specific kind of plant anymore, so I bring it home and plant it in the, what I call my “birthing garden” and whenever someone needs that type, there it is for the taking. Ulcers – cause, remedy and diet

Does any one of you experience indigestion, heartburn and/or severe pain, especially in the stomach area, two or three hours after taking food? Or does any one of you experience severe pain when you do not take food at regular intervals?

If the answer is in the affirmative, then there is every possibility that you might be suffering from Ulcer – one of the most common disorders many people suffer from, due to irregular food habits and/or other reasons.

What is ulcer? Ulcer is type of disease in which the sores erode either the skin or the mucous membrane and penetrate through the muscles that lie beneath the skin or the mucous membrane. The common types of ulcer that most people suffer with are peptic ulcer and gastric ulcer.

Peptic ulcer is caused in the lower part of the esophagus, the stomach or the duodenum, because these are the areas that are exposed to stomach acids and also pepsin, the enzyme used in digestion. Erosion caused in the mucous membrane of stomach is referred to as gastric ulcer. When the duodenum or upper part of the small intestine is exposed for erosion, then one might suffer from duodenal ulcer.

What causes Ulcer – in the first instance?

There exists a notion that over-secretion of the stomach acids is the primary reason for erosion and the resultant ulcer. But, it has been found that the primary reason for ulcer is the existence of Helicobacter pylori, or H pylori, – a common bacterium, which infects the intestines.

Other causes for ulcer might be excessive smoking and/or heavy drinking of alcohol. Excessive consumption of some of the drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen are also found to be causes for this disease.

What can be done to treat ulcers?

If you were one of those patients suffering from ulcers, then the first thing you should do is to cut down drastically on the number of cigarettes you smoke, and try to avoid it completely as early as possible. So is the case with the case of alcohol consumption. The quicker you get away from these ill-habits, the quicker you can get permanent relief from this pain and agony.

One quick way to get relief from stomach acid or neutralize the impact of that acid is to use over-the-counter drugs that contain sodium bicarbonate or baking soda. This might give temporary relief but prolonged consumption of baking soda might have other side-effects.

A cup of aloe-vera juice, three times a day, is one of the best home remedies to over come the agony of ulcer.

If you suffer from ulcer, the important thing you should do is to ensure that your diet does not include elements that would elevate the secretion of gastric acid and also cause irritation at the gastro-intestinal lining. In simple terms, you should avoid taking spices such as garlic, cloves, pepper and chili peppers.

You can also avoid taking fatty foods and also avoid taking snacks at irregular times such as late nights.

Reducing the consumption of coffee or other forms of caffeine might also provide relief for people suffering from ulcer.

Useful tips to measure your body weight or BMI Index

“It is very easy to advice but difficult to practice” – this is one common lament we hear very frequently, whatever may be situation and the context in which it is uttered.

One such advice we find very commonly in discussions related to food consumption and especially body weight or obesity is all about fats, high-intake of calories, exercises, burning of calories, etc..

While every one of us have some idea of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, fat and minerals, we cannot measure or assess how much of each of these things we consumed on a single sitting or in a day and whether that were adequate, more than required or less than required.

One fine day, when we visit the doctor to check our weight and height, we will be shocked to hear from the physician that we are either obese or underweight and need to control our food intake. Is it not? It is a common feature among most of us.

What is BMI Index?

BMI Index, or the Body-Mass Index, is a measure that is used to assess whether you are normal weight, under weight, overweight or obese. It is calculated by using your body weight and the height.

If a person’s BMI index is less than 18.5, then he or she is said to be Underweight and needs to put on some weight.

If the BMI Index is between 18.5 and 24.9, then you are said to be of normal weight and the onus rests on you to ensure that you maintain that index to enjoy the prescribed normal weight.

If the BMI Index ranges between 25 and 30, then you are said to be Overweight and you should strive to bring it down.

If the BMI index exceeds 30, then you are Obese, and you should take measures to bring it down to overweight and gradually to normal weight.

How to keep track over your BMI?

It is simple to calculate your BMI. You need to do some simple things.

a. Take a reading of your weight; if it is in pounds, then divide it by 2.2 to get the weight in kilograms.
b. Take a reading of your height; if the reading is in inches, then divide it by 2.54 to convert the height in to centimeters..
c. Divide the height converted in centimeters by 100 to get the height in meters.
d. Now, calculate the square of the height converted into meters.
e. Now calculate the BMI – which is nothing but your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height calculated in meters

Now, you can arrive at the BMI. Compare it with the standards slated above and now, you are in control over your body weight.

It is just as simple as it can be.

The Spine and Ribcage

The spine and the ribcage of the human body both play very important roles. The spine if broken or fractured may cause a loss of mobility of the limbs resulting in paraplegia or quadriplegia. Breaking the neck may cause death. The ribcage not only protects the heart from impacts but also protects the lungs. The average human being has 12 ribs on either side, there are abnormalities which may result in people having up to 28 rubs but these are generally vestigial ribs located in the cervical region and commonly cause neck, arm and back pain.

The neck, spine and ribcage of the human body consists of 12 ribs, cervical vertebra, Manubrium, Body of sternum, Costal cartilages, Xiphoid process and 12 thoracic vertebra.

The ribs.

The human rib cage is also known as the thoracic cage and is constructed of cartilage and bone which surrounds the chest cavity like a cage and provides support for the pectoral girdle (shoulder) and is a core section of the human skeleton. There are typically 24 ribs in the human body with 12 on the left side and 12 on the right. Each rib is named by its numerical position ranging from 1st rib to 12th on either side.

Cervical vertebra

The cervical vertebra is the vertebra which is located immediately inferior to the human skull. This is an individual bone which is in the vertebra column which is responsible for encasing and protecting the spinal cord from damage. The spinal cord runs from the base of the skull to the pelvis.

Manubrium

The manubrium is also known as the manubriums sterni and is recognised as the broad, upper section of the sternum. The manubrium is a quadrangular shape and articulates with the top two ribs and the clavicles.

Body of sternum

The body of the sternum in the human body is also known as the gladiolus and is significantly longer, thinner and also narrower than the manubrium and gains the most of its breadth closer to the lower end.

Costal cartilages

The costal cartilages are essentially bars of cartilage which exist to enhance the ribs in a forward projection and contribute to the walls of the thorax’s elasticity.

Xiphoid process

The xiphoid process is also referred to as the xiphisternum and is a small extension made of cartilage which goes to the lower section of the sternum which is commonly turned into bone in adult humans. Around the ages of 15 to 29 the xiphoid will usually fuse itself to the body of the sternum using a fibrous joint which makes it unable to move.

Thoracic vertebrae.

The 12 thoracic vertebrae are intermediate in sizes between those which are of the cervical regions and the lumbar regions and are increasing in size as the spine proceeds further down. They compose the middle section of the vertebral column located between the cervical vertebrae and the lumbar vertebrae. The twelve thoracic vertebrae are commonly referred to in short as T1 for the first thoracic vertebra, T2 for the second and so forth giving you the results of T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10, T11 and T12.
